RBS Change: Open Source CMS for eCommerce

The result of a Web agency’s experience

RBS created the Open Source CMS RBS Change to provide its Web agency, the Webfactory, with a powerful, easy to implement tool, which matched its clients’ needs.

The development of RBS Change started in 2005 and at each new version the software increased in maturity with features like: a dynamic and ergonomic management interface, multi-sites and multi-languages features, the advanced management of user rights, a competitive workflow engine, an Apache Solr-based search engine.

At the end of 2007, the official launch of RBS Change 2.0 was a milestone in the RBS Change CMS project. Then began a new challenge: to conceive an eCommerce solution fully integrated to the content management system RBS Change.

A CMS & an eCommerce platform

A genuine E-commerce platform was built on top the RBS Change CMS in order to:

• make the management of an eCommerce website easier with RBS Change
• make RBS Change’s powerful SEO tools available for eCommerce websites
• meet the end-user’s expectations in terms of eCommerce experience

An Open Source CMS

When the development of RBS Change 3.0 started, the question of RBS Change’s business model and distribution arised. The aim of this new version is to improve the ergonomic of the management interface but also to develop the eCommerce offer by creating new features.

And so RBS Change 3.0, a mature tool used for more than 3 years by RBS for its client’s projects, became an Open Source project. The aim is to boost the diffusion of the CMS, and of course to create a community of users and internet experts people, including all  profiles involved in a Web project’s life: Project Managers, Designers, Developers and Webmarketing specialists...
